Dickinson's History

Dickinson is located on a tract of land granted to John Dickinson in 1824. Later, the Galveston, Houston, and Henderson Railroad was built directly through Dickinson. This line was used by the military in the American Civil War to successfully retake Galveston. Due to its close proximity to Texas City and Johnson Space Center, the city's population has grown in recent years. It also began to attract tourists interested in the activities of the Maceo crime syndicate which operated in the area during the 1920s.
